15th Steppingley Step
The Steppingley Step is a map-based walking and running event based at Barton-le-Clay Village Hall, MK45 4JY. Routes traverse mainly field paths, tracks, woods and some roads through undulating countryside, offering views from the hills along the way. Routes use Ordnance Survey maps LR153, LR166 or EXP193 and marked maps will be displayed at the start.
Distances:
- 12 miles for walkers only
- 18 miles route for walkers and runners
- 26 miles route for walkers and runners
Entries are online only, with priority entry open to LDWA members during an initial period. Entry fees are LDWA member £10, non LDWA £15, under 18s free. There are no entries on the day and places are not transferable.
Checkpoint structure differs by route: one checkpoint on the 12 mile route, two on the 18 mile, and three on the 26 mile route. The entry fee includes drinks, biscuits at the start, snacks at checkpoints and a light meal at the finish; vegetarian options are provided and some vegan food may be available but cannot be guaranteed.
Participants must download and print their own route description; GPX files and route descriptions will be published on the organiser website before the event. Dogs are allowed but must be on leads, kept out of halls except assistance dogs, and must have appropriate liability insurance.
Recommended equipment includes the printed route description, compass, mug, waterproofs, map covers, mobile phone and a small first aid kit. Return transport from checkpoints is only provided for retirements notified to an event official. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
