Stuc a' Chroin 5000 Hill Race

The Stuc a' Chroin 5000 is an annual hill race held on the Saturday before the May Day Bank Holiday. In 2026 the event takes place on 2 May in Strathyre, Perthshire, within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

The course covers approximately 20 km with a total ascent of over 5000 ft (1500 m). The route reaches the summits of Ben Each and the Stuc a' Chroin and involves sustained uphill sections and mountain terrain. Organisers publish an up-to-date forecast of local conditions in the lead up to the race.

Travel and event logistics are affected by the early May Bank Holiday. Traffic on routes from Stirling, past Blair Drummond Safari Park and through Callander can increase journey times. Registration for the event is managed through SiEntries. Competitors are required to carry mandatory equipment and may wish to use midge repellent, as conditions in early May can vary.

The event has a long history, first run in 1988, with more than 4000 participants recorded since inception and over 30 years of running. After the race there is a licensed bar and a free ceilidh for participants and supporters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
