About the race

Sticks n' Stones Trail Race is held at Christie Lake Conservation Area in Hamilton, Ontario and is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario. The course is a loop that circles the lake; the official loop measures about 5.3 km and is described as rolling, fast, and runnable on primarily dirt, non-technical trails.

Distances offered

  • 5 km (one loop, course ~5.3 km)
  • 10 km (two loops, course ~10.6 km)
  • 26.5 km (five loops)
  • 53 km SOLO (ten loops)
  • 53 km RELAY (ten loops; team size up to five racers)

Each loop includes two aid stations: one at the loop start/finish and one roughly mid-loop. Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, pop, fruit, and sweet and salty snacks. The event is cup-less; participants should bring a collapsible cup or bottle. A local nutrition partner supplies gels in race kits and at aid stations; ingredients listed for those gels include maple syrup, tahini, sea salt, and rowanberry extract.

Race kit pick-up takes place on-site at the Beach Pavilion on race day. Apparel and kit notes: 5k, 10k, 26.5k and relay participants receive a toque; 53 km SOLO participants receive a hoodie; hoodies are available for purchase for other categories for CA$35 at registration. Parking is included with registration; spectators pay park admission.

The 53 km solo event has an 8-hour cutoff. Relay exchange zones are at the start/finish area. Pacers are not permitted except for participants over age 65. Finishers receive a medal; top solo finishers and top relay teams receive awards. Professional timing and race photography are provided. The event supports fundraising for Oceana Canada. A footwear sponsor will have demo shoes on site and will provide prize pairs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
