Steaming Down the Valley 10K
The event is a chip timed trail race of 10 km that follows riverside paths through the Severn Valley alongside the Severn Valley Railway. The course is fully off road, using dirt, gravel and grass, with natural undulations and the possibility of soft or muddy ground underfoot.
Runners head downstream from Severn Valley Country Park toward Arley, cross the River Severn on the footbridge at Arley, and return upstream on the opposite bank to finish back at the Country Park. For part of the route runners run in parallel with a steam train; the race is scheduled around the Severn Valley Railway steam service so a train travels behind competitors on the return leg.
The course mixes grassy riverbank paths, woodland sections and uneven trail surfaces. Final race day instructions and timing details are issued to registered runners in advance of the event. The finish is at Severn Valley Country Park, at or near Country Park Halt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
