Starburster (5 or 10 miles)

Starburster is a twilight trail event in Hurn Forest that uses an out-and-back route along the forest's main trail, with a race base at Hospital Services Cricket Club. Laps are 2.5 miles each; the 5 mile option is one lap and the 10 mile option is two laps.

Distances:

  • 5 miles one 2.5 mile out-and-back lap
  • 10 miles two 2.5 mile out-and-back laps

As a twilight event, head or chest torches are essential and additional lights are encouraged. Trail shoes are recommended but not required because the track is hardstanding and well maintained. An aid and drinks station will operate at the start/finish with a selection of savoury and sweet items; plastic cups are not provided.

Facilities at the cricket club include toilets and a space to leave bags. Number pick-up happens at race registration before the event, and participants receive final instructions by email. The event is licensed by the TRA and will be run under UKA rules.

Twenty percent of entry fees will be donated to Forestry England to support forest and trail maintenance. Parking near the start is limited; a public car park is available on Boundary Lane about 0.4 miles away. The nearest bus stop is St. Leonard's Hospital and the nearest train stations are Bournemouth and Branksome, each about 8.1 miles from the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
