South Downs 200 miles
The South Downs 200 is a continuous trail event covering 200 miles within the South Downs National Park. The route runs from east to west and back, forming a large loop that follows a variety of trails, mainly the Monarchs Way and the South Downs Way.
Entrants have 100 hours to complete the course. The terrain includes rolling hills, forest trails and steep climbs, with approximately 22,000 ft of elevation gain. The event is open to runners and walkers; crews and pacers are permitted. It is registered as a UTMB Index race.
The event is fully supported and waymarked. There are 14 aid stations along the route, including three designated sleep stations, and a volunteer team to staff support points.
Entry operates via a waitlist and selection process: prospective entrants must sign up to the waitlist and provide a summary of their long-distance running or hiking experience by email. There is no formal qualifying standard, but entrants must demonstrate substantial background in long-distance events; completing a single 100 mile event will almost certainly support an application but does not guarantee acceptance. Accepted entrants may complete payment in one amount or spread over three instalments. The event takes place in mid July, a period with long daylight hours.
