Sombrero Sizzler - Jacksonville, FL
Sombrero Sizzler is a timed loop event held at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Florida, presented by Sombrero Running. The event uses a 1.25 mile paved loop composed of about three quarters asphalt and one quarter concrete walking path, with a short grassy section at the end. Pine trees line much of the course, providing shade for portions of the day. The loop is described as pancake flat with minimal turns, including five wide left turns.
The event offers multiple timed options:
- 3 hours
- 6 hours - relay option for 4 person teams, any gender combination, limit 10 teams
- 9 hours
- 12 hours
There is one main aid station at the start/finish pavilion serving standard ultra foods and Skratch Electrolyte. Food will be grilled throughout the event and includes breakfast items, burgers with vegan options, brats, Italian sausage, and bacon. Packet pick up and race day briefing occur on race day and parking is available along the road leading into the pavilion area adjacent to the course.
Rucking follows honor system weight guidelines: women 10 pounds or more, men 20 pounds or more; permitted weight types include plate, brick, or sandbag. Awards include overall top three in each event, additional special awards, and team division awards depending on participation. Each participant will receive a custom medal; other swag items are to be determined. Registration closes on the day before the event.
