About the race
The Smoky Mountain Relay is a 200+ mile team relay held April 30 to May 1, 2027, running from Brevard to Bryson City, North Carolina. The full route is 208 miles and is divided into 36 legs for teams of 6, 9, or 12 runners.
The course begins at the Pisgah Ranger Station Visitor Center outside Brevard and finishes at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City. Teams travel through the Pisgah National Forest and the Nantahala National Forest and cross the Blue Ridge Parkway at two exchanges. The route passes through five Western North Carolina counties and includes a mix of trail running, gravel and dirt forest service roads, and paved roadways. Parts of the course include road running at night.
The event materials note staged pricing windows beginning June 15, 2026 (summer), September 7, 2026 (fall), December 16, 2026 (winter), and March 16, 2027 (spring). New team registration closes April 1, 2027. A 10 percent discount is available for teams that meet specific criteria, including military, student, all female, or company and non profit teams.
