Slawit Snowstorm Shuffle
The Slawit Snowstorm Shuffle is a trail event based in Slaithwaite with routes that follow the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. The course runs out to Tunnel End, a 3.5 mile tunnel under the Pennines formerly used by canal boats. The route includes many canal locks and mainly off-road sections, and it includes some unmarshalled road crossings.
Participants choose from four distances:
- 5k
- 10k
- Half marathon
- Marathon (two laps of the half marathon route)
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and uses a generous 6.5 hour cut off time. Feed stations are located approximately every three miles and offer drinks and food; the event operates with a cup-less approach so runners are encouraged to use a reusable cup or bottle. Marshals are placed along the course to provide assistance and encouragement, and runners are asked to notify the nearest marshal if they need to retire.
Registration, loos and bag drop are at Slaithwaite Community Centre on Bank Gate. Parking at the start is very limited; street and town carpark parking is available and there is a train station in Slaithwaite. Finishers receive a bespoke medal, drinks and edible refreshments.
