Slawit Snowstorm Shuffle

The Slawit Snowstorm Shuffle is a trail running event organised by Its Grim Up North Running, starting and finishing in the village of Slaithwaite. The course follows a stretch of the Huddersfield narrow canal, noted for its many locks, and runs out to Tunnel End, a 3.5 mile tunnel under the Pennines. Boat trips and kayaking take place in the tunnel on certain days.

The event offers multiple race distances:

  • 5k
  • 10k
  • Half marathon
  • Marathon

A maximum cut off of 6.5 hours applies. Feed stations are placed on the course, normally around every three miles, providing drinks and food. The event operates a cup-less policy, so runners should use a reusable cup or bottle. Marshals are placed along the route to offer direction and assistance. There may be unmarshalled road crossings.

Headphone use is restricted: large over-ear headphones are not allowed. If earphones are worn, bone conducting devices or single-ear use is preferred. Transfers or deferrals can be self-served within 72 hours. If a runner needs to retire from the race they should notify the nearest marshal. Races are licensed by the Trail Running Association.

Registration, toilets and bag drop are at Slaithwaite Community Centre on Bank Gate. The start and finish are on the canal just outside Waves. Parking at the start is limited; town car parks and side roads are used for additional parking. At the finish runners receive a bespoke medal, drinks and edible refreshments. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
