Slate Valley Scramble
The Slate Valley Scramble is a trail running event in Poultney, Vermont, organized by Slate Valley Trails, a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The event includes trail races and a short kids fun run held at the Fairgrounds Trailhead on Town Farm Road.
Runners can choose between:
- Half marathon - 13.1 miles, approximately 1500 ft elevation gain
- 8K - 8 kilometers, approximately 700 ft elevation gain
- Kid's Fun Run - under 0.5 mile, open to children 12 and younger
Both main courses run primarily on single-track and double-track trails through wooded terrain with flat sections, rolling hills, and a few sustained climbs. The half marathon follows a larger loop on the Fairgrounds West and East trail systems and joins the 8K for the final loop. The courses offer occasional views of the local Slate Valley.
Aid stations provide water, an electrolyte drink, fruit, and light snacks. The race is cup-free; participants are expected to carry a bottle to refill at stations. No fueling gels or chews will be supplied at aid stations. The half marathon has multiple aid stops; the 8K passes an aid station twice.
All finishers receive a finisher award. Top-three open and female finishers in each race receive awards. Post-race activities include an award ceremony, snacks, and a raffle. Proceeds support the growth and maintenance of the Slate Valley Trails network. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
