About the race

SilverBackTrails Othnesbery’s Revenge is a trail half marathon held on 15 August 2027 in the North York Moors National Park. The race covers approximately 13.1 miles and is the sixth edition of this event. The course includes forest tracks, heather-clad moorland and multiple ascents of Roseberry Topping, locally known as Othnesbery and linked in local tradition to Odin and the Viking era.

Places are limited to 50 runners and all finishers receive a bespoke medal; a new medal design is used for 2027. The event has a five hour cut off and an age minimum of 17 on the day. Entry details include an entry fee of £23, entries open on 19 August 2026 and close on 10 August 2027, no entries are accepted on the day, and refunds are not offered though transfers are allowed up to one week before the event.

Participants must carry mandatory kit and will sign a disclaimer confirming they have it; spot checks may be made and anyone without required equipment will be withdrawn. Required items include a waterproof jacket with taped seams unless Paramo, hat or buff or gloves, an emergency bivvy bag, a charged mobile phone, at least 500 mils of fluid and 120 grams of emergency food, a working compass and an OS Explorer 26 or Harvey’s North Yorkshire Moors map. The course is marked with marshals and some flags, entrants receive a GPX file, and a master route map is available at registration. Parking is in the car park below Roseberry Topping and participants pay any parking charges. Dogs are allowed on a lead and start after other participants.
