Shropshire Hills 50 Ultra Challenge
The event is based at the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms and offers trail options across the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The main route is a roughly 55 km loop that heads southwest on trails toward Knighton on the Welsh border, passes through the historic village of Leintwardine, and approaches Stokesay Castle before the finish. The course includes about 1350 metres of climb.
Distances available:
- 55 km main loop
- 27 km option
- 10 mile loop option
Support and logistics are provided on course and at basecamp. Rest stops are covered and placed approximately every 12.5 km, with larger facilities about every 25 km; these include catering, seating, and medical and welfare tents. The route is fully signed with hundreds of pink arrows and GPS tracking via an event app. A timing system scans participants at rest stops and a control room monitors progress.
On-site services include marquee rest stops, hot and cold food and drink options catering for dietary needs, medical and massage teams, camping at basecamp, parking, and shuttle transfers to local train stations. Event options listed include a solo start option, an Ultra March option, and a Trailblazerz option. Finishers receive a medal, a T-shirt, and a glass of fizz; a hot meal is available as noted for the 10 km option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
