Shropshire Hills 50 Ultra Challenge
The event takes place on Saturday 18 September 2027 in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with basecamp at the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. The main route is a loop of approximately 55 km that heads southwest on trails toward Knighton on the Welsh border and passes through the village of Leintwardine before returning past Stokesay Castle.
Distances include:
- 55 km main loop
- 27 km option
- 10 mile loops
The course includes around 1350 metres of climb and is described as fully supported. Facilities listed for the event include marquee rest stops, camping for the weekend, parking, shuttle transfers, and a solo start option. There are also Ultra March and Trailblazerz options available.
Support features on route include rest stops every ~12.5 km with larger stops about every ~25 km, catering with a range of snacks and drinks, a picnic at 25 km for 50 km participants, medical staff, podiatrists, and massage teams. The route is signed with numerous pink arrows and uses glow-sticks at night; GPS tracking and a timing system scan competitors at rest stops. Finish-line provisions include a medal, finisher’s T-shirt, a glass of fizz, and an optional hot meal for 10 km finishers.
