Show Me Your Free State Marathon & Ultra
The Show Me Your Free State Marathon & Ultra is a one day event on October 24, 2026 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Races begin and end near Rosecrans Memorial Airport and use a 25 mile loop that runs mainly in Kansas along the Missouri River and through Gladden Bottoms and sections of the Loess Hills.
Distances offered:
- 100 mile four laps
- 50 mile two laps
- 50 kilometer one lap plus a 3 mile out and back
- Marathon one lap plus a 1.2 mile finish loop
- Half marathon out and back to mile 6.55
The loop has about 138 feet of elevation gain per lap and a mix of surfaces: roughly 10 miles of paved road with the remainder on gravel or crushed limestone levee trail. The course includes a monitored crossing of US Highway 36 in Wathena, Kansas. Scenery includes farmland, river views, and autumn foliage; wildlife sightings are common.
Manned aid stations are located at Start Finish, Northern Levee, Wathena, and Roseport Landing and provide fluids, salty snacks, fruit, sweets, and warm food after sunset. Unmanned stations offer water and limited snacks. First aid supplies are available at stations.
Rules and services: age minimums vary by distance, no refunds or transfers, drop bag limits for ultra distances, crew and pacer policies apply, and certain conduct and safety requirements are enforced including visible bibs, no dogs on course except ADA service animals, and reflective gear after dark. Typical late October temperatures range from lower 40s at night to upper 60s by day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
