Saturnalia
Saturnalia is a year end trail race held in Squaxin Park near Olympia, Washington. The event uses the Reeves Middle School track for the start and finish and follows the park's upper and lower loop trails, including the Ellis Cove trail, with views toward Puget Sound and the Capitol.
The race distance is approximately 10K and there is no enforced cutoff; participants may walk the course. An aid station at the finish provides water, oranges, hot beverages and holiday treats such as hot cider and cookies. Basic first aid supplies and safety support are available.
Registration includes a finisher medal and a finisher gift, a limited edition race sticker, finish line high fives, and a tree planted with One Tree Planted for each finisher. The event is a cupless, zero waste effort; participants are asked to bring a collapsible cup and recycling and food waste bins will be available. Race packets can be picked up on race day at the Reeves Middle School track.
Parking is available at Reeves Middle School and the park remains open to other trail users during the race, so runners are asked to share the trail and be respectful of other visitors. The organizer notes that only a limited number of entries are available and that the entry fee is forty dollars plus platform fees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
