Santa Barbara Trail Classic

The Santa Barbara Trail Classic is a trail running event in Santa Barbara, California scheduled for June 5, 2027. The event starts and finishes at Westmont College and offers multiple distance options.

  • 23K: Classic route, roughly 4000 feet elevation gain.
  • 42K: Route planned, roughly 7000 feet elevation gain, pending USFS approval.

The 23K course follows a classic Santa Barbara route. Runners travel up Cold Spring Trail, descend San Ysidro Trail, cross west on the Edison Catway while following a portion of the historic Nine Trails course, then return to Cold Spring Trail toward the finish. The course includes two aid stations located at about mile 5.50 (8.75 km) and mile 9.25 (15 km). Start and finish are at Westmont College near 955 La Paz Rd, Santa Barbara, CA.

The proposed 42K route would extend the 23K route by running the full Cold Spring Trail into the backcountry, looping on Romero Camuesa, Blue Canyon Connector, and Blue Canyon Trail, then returning over the mountain to follow the same final section as the 23K. The 42K is listed as pending approval from the U.S. Forest Service. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
