About the race
Santa Barbara Tough Enough is a running event in Santa Barbara, California on April 3, 2027. The event offers several formats and distance options:
- 118 Mile Relay
- 59 mile solo
- 2 to 5 person relay
The main relay route for the 59 mile option follows the Transverse Range ridgeline from Toro Canyon in Montecito to Nojoqui Falls near Solvang. The course mixes paved roads, a short technical singletrack section, and long stretches of fire road. Runners will encounter open traffic sections and unmarked trails, and terrain alternates between sustained climbs and descents.
The route is divided into ten named legs with distinct character. Examples include a steady climb from Toro Canyon, a narrow trail-only canyon section that requires good balance and comfort with exposure, long climbs toward La Cumbre Peak, mostly downhill segments on Camino Cielo, and a short final leg into Nojoqui Falls Park.
Teams of up to five typically run two legs each. Solo entry is allowed but described as not recommended for first timers. Entry is limited to 75 teams and registration opens December 1, 2026. The event is self supported: teams provide their own aid, food, and hydration while offering mutual assistance when safe. A $50 donation is collected per participant and 100 percent of proceeds benefit Direct Relief. Organizers handle insurance, event swag, food, and after party logistics.
