Event Overview

The San Diego 100 is a long-distance endurance run held in the east county mountains of San Diego. The event features a loop course that starts and finishes at the south parking area of the Lake Cuyamaca Recreation Area, located approximately 9 miles southwest of Julian, California. The route consists of 90% single-track mountain trails and traverses four recreational areas, including Cuyamaca State Park, Anza-Borrego State Park, and the Mt Laguna Recreational Areas. Participants will also navigate sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and Noble Canyon.

The course involves approximately 15,600 feet of climbing and an equal amount of descent. Runners face a technical environment characterized by hot and dry conditions. The event has a 32-hour time limit for completion.

Distances and Categories

The event offers the following participation options:

  • 100 Miler Crewed: Runners may utilize a support crew and pacers according to race regulations.
  • 100 Miler Solo: Participants run the entire distance without the support of a crew or pacers. Solo runners must rely solely on drop bags and aid stations. Spectators are only permitted to meet solo entrants at the start and finish lines.

Entry Requirements

Registration is limited to 200 entrants on a first-come, first-served basis. To qualify for participation, applicants must meet specific running and service prerequisites:

  • Running Qualification: Applicants must have completed a 50-mile race in under 13 hours, or a 100 km or 100-mile race within the official time limits, between January 1, 2025, and April 1, 2027.
  • Service Requirement: Participants must complete 6 hours of trail maintenance or community service between May 1, 2026, and April 15, 2027. Alternatively, a donation may be made to support trail services.

Runners over the age of 60 have the option of an early start, provided they are prepared to self-support until the first aid stations open. The race serves as a qualifier for the Western States 100. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
