About the race

The Serpent Trail races follow a long distance route within the South Downs National Park, running from Haslemere to Petersfield through Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. The courses pass through greensand hills, lowland heath, ancient woodland and river meanders. The full route includes higher ground on the Wealden Greensand Hills and lower sandy trails on the southern section.

Multiple race distances are offered:

  • 100k Ultra from one end of the Serpent Trail.
  • 75k as an intermediate long distance option.
  • 50k Ultra starting near Petworth at the trail mid point.
  • 20k along the southern section towards Petersfield.
  • Half marathon on the southern section of the trail.
  • 10k on woodland and southern trail sections.

The 100k event provides a kit list for participants and is designed to allow runners to travel light on trail terrain. The southern section has smaller hills, sandy paths and short road links, and the event is described as inclusive for walkers as well as runners. Coach transport is included from the venue or finish to each race start. Camping is available at the venue for the weekend. The event supports Havant & East Hants MIND and has raised more than £8,000 for that charity. Information about travel, environmental measures and frequently asked questions is available through the event pages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
