Event Overview
Run to Remember is a trail running event held in Piney Run Park, located in Sykesville, Maryland. The event provides an opportunity for participants to challenge themselves in memory of lost loved ones. The race course consists of a 5.25 mile loop that traverses a mixture of woods and meadows, with approximately 50% of the route offering views of the lake.
The event offers several distance options to accommodate different goals:
- 50K: Consists of six full loops of the course.
- 25K: Consists of three full loops of the course.
- 5 Miler: Consists of a single loop of the course.
- 8 Hour Challenge: Participants complete as many loops as possible within the time limit.
Logistics and Support
The course features two water stops along the loop. At the transition of each lap, a well-stocked aid station provides a variety of food and drinks. Participants in the 8 Hour Challenge are timed based on completed loops, whereas those in the fixed-distance races are marked as DNF if they do not finish their designated distance. All participants must start their final lap by a specific afternoon cutoff.
Registration fees include park entrance, a custom ice bandana, and a unique ceramic mug. Medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each race category. The event takes place rain or shine, and registration must be completed in advance as there is no race-day sign-up. A portion of the event proceeds supports the American Association for Cancer Research and local athletic scholarships. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
