Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay
Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay is scheduled for November 7, 2026, at Petal River Park in Petal, MS. The event offers a timed solo ultra, a relay format, and a shorter community walk.
Participants run repeated laps of a roughly 2.8-mile loop that moves from wide meadow lanes into single-track beneath a hardwood canopy. The course passes riverfront areas, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles. Both the ultra and relay formats let participants create their own distance by completing as many laps as possible within the six hour window.
The relay format fields teams of two to four members with one runner on course at a time; batons are exchanged only in the designated exchange zone and only laps finished before the cut off count toward results. Timing is managed by Endurance Timing, with individual bibs for solo runners and a baton system for teams. Final standings are based on completed laps with ties broken by total time.
This event uses a tailgate style for rest and support; participants and teams provide their own fuel at personal tailgate sites. There is no on course aid station, but cold refreshments are available at the finish and loop start. Overnight camping is permitted on site without security. The event is hosted by the City of Petal Parks & Recreation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
