Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay
The Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay takes place on November 7, 2026, at Petal River Park in Petal, MS. The event offers three participation formats: a six hour solo ultra, a six hour relay for teams of two to four, and a new community friendly walk.
The course is a roughly 2.8-mile loop that moves from wide meadow lanes into single-track beneath a hardwood canopy. The route passes riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles. Natural trail conditions include roots and uneven surfaces; participants should bring appropriate hydration and gear for trail terrain.
Relay teams exchange a baton in a designated exchange zone; only laps completed before the six hour cut-off count toward standings. Individuals wear bibs for timing while teams use the baton system. Final standings are based on completed laps, with ties broken by total time. Timing is provided by Endurance Timing.
There is no on-course aid station because of the short loop, but cold refreshments are available at the loop start and finish area. Teams are encouraged to keep their own fuel at personal tailgate sites. Tailgate spots are assigned on a first-come basis and solo ultra runners receive priority for on-course spots. Overnight camping is allowed on-site without security.
