Last Wolf Howling
Last Wolf Howling is a Last Person Standing format race held at Petal River Park in Petal, Mississippi. The event takes place on a 4.17 mile loop consisting of wooded single-track trail and dirt gravel roads. The terrain is described as mostly flat and shaded, with minimal elevation change and some bumpy sections.
The competition follows a specific format where participants must complete the 4.167 mile course once every hour. A new loop begins at the top of every hour. To remain in the event, runners must be in the starting corral when the hour begins and finish the loop within the 60-minute time limit. The race continues until only one person is able to complete a solo victory lap.
The event provides several amenities for participants:
- A fully stocked aid station at the start and finish area offering meals, snacks, and beverages.
- An unmanned water and electrolyte station located midway through the loop.
- A dedicated tent area for solo or uncrewed runners.
- Space for crewed runners to set up personal tents near the start line.
Every participant who completes at least one full loop receives a finisher medal, and results are ranked by total mileage attained rather than issuing "Did Not Finish" (DNF) statuses. Runners reaching 100 miles within 24 hours receive a specialized buckle, while the overall winner receives a specific Alpha Wolf buckle.
