Rosendale Runs Half Marathon and 6K Run/Walk
Organized by the Shawangunk Runners in conjunction with the Wallkill Valley Land Trust, this event in the Town of Rosendale, New York, includes a half marathon and a 6K run/walk. The venue is in upstate New York, about 90 miles from New York City, and takes place along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail.
The course is mostly flat and is 93% on an unpaved but well groomed section of the rail trail, with two short sections that leave the trail. The route crosses the historic Rosendale Trestle bridge, which sits about 150 feet above and extends roughly 900 feet across the Rondout Creek, and it passes scenic lakes and a "cave" at the Williams Lake Project. The rail trail has been recognized by the National Rails to Trails Conservancy.
All proceeds benefit the Wallkill Valley Land Trust, whose mission is to improve, protect, and maintain the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail for public use. The event is capped at 300 starters. Online registration fees are $30 for the half marathon and $25 for the 6K run/walk. The half marathon has a cutoff time of three hours and fifteen minutes. T shirts are guaranteed to registrants who register by September 15. Refreshments, raffle prizes, a finisher medal, and awards in standard 10 year age groups are provided.
