Rodeo Trail Run of Austin - March 13-15, 2027
The Rodeo Trail Run of Austin is a multi-day trail event held in Spicewood, Texas (640 CR 412, 78669) featuring several race formats on Hill Country terrain. The venue includes rocky, steep, and technical sections with loose rock, short climbs and descents, and frequent grade changes that affect footing and pacing.
Distances and formats:
- 13.1 miles Half Marathon on all-trail terrain
- 28 miles Marathon Ultra on trail and dirt roads
- 4.167 miles loop Backyard Ultra (repeated hourly)
- 8-hour timed run using the same 4.167-mile loop
- Backyard Duos 2-person team division with strict alternation
Backyard Ultra format and rules are applied as follows: each lap (one loop) begins exactly one hour after the previous lap started; runners must start at the bell, complete the loop in under one hour, and remain on course except for restroom breaks. The Backyard winner is the last runner who completes one more lap than all other competitors; all other runners are recorded as DNF. The Backyard Duos division requires strict alternation between teammates, a single continuous timing chip, and a timed chip exchange in the transition chute each hour; failure to exchange or to be in the starting corral at the hour results in a DNF for the team.
Aid stations are fully stocked for the Half Marathon and Marathon Ultra. Finisher recognition includes participant shirts and finisher buckles awarded for completing specified loop or distance thresholds. The event is organized in partnership with Healthy Kids Running Series Cedar Park and is not affiliated with Rodeo Austin. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
