About the race
Rip To River is a surf beach event organised by Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club. The main race is a 10 km beach run along hard, compact sand from The Rip at Point Lonsdale to the Barwon River mouth at Ocean Grove. The event is held early each summer and typically attracts around 1,000 runners. It is the club's largest annual fundraiser.
The program includes multiple events and categories:
- 10 km run
- 10 km walk
- 5 km run
- Ripper Nipper run for young children
Online registrants can collect race bibs either the day before the event at Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club or on the morning of the event from Ocean Grove SLSC (for 5 km and Nipper events) and Point Lonsdale SLSC (for 10 km events). Event T-shirts are available for collection or purchase on the two days around the event for those who paid for one online. A coach is provided to return 10 km entrants to Point Lonsdale; this service is included in the entry fee and departs from Surf Beach Road north of the public toilet block at Ocean Grove Main Beach. Entrant bags may be left at Point Lonsdale SLSC, transported to Ocean Grove Main Beach, and collected from the BBQ tent at the entrant's own risk.
Adventure Park is noted as a major sponsor of the Rip To River. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
