Ricky's Race
Ricky's Race is organised by Matlock Athletic Club and takes place in Darley Dale, near Matlock on 13 August 2026. The event covers a distance of 7.3 km / 4.5 miles with a total climb of 240 m. Entry is priced at £6.50, the field is limited to 275 runners and the minimum age is 16 years. Registration requires payment at the time of entry and is handled online and in advance; there are no entries on the day. The course is waymarked.
The route begins on a forest trail with a short flat section before a wooded ascent where tree roots are present. A brief tarmac section leads onto an ever climbing lane of more than a mile, followed by a descent that returns to more technical woodland trails with muddy sections.
After a short retrace the course sends runners up another wooded ascent and out towards South Darley. The final climb rises to the Oker Trig Point on a steep 1:3 gradient and provides views across the valley and towards the finish. The closing stages run along a short skyline near the Oker Tree, include a few technical descents and finish across a final field with visible finish flags.
