Rat Race 100 | Ultramarathon

The Rat Race 100 is a 100 mile (160 km) mass participation run and trek taking place 3–5 July 2027. The event uses a continuous coastal and urban route from Bamburgh to Edinburgh as part of a three‑event trilogy; participants who complete all three events earn a Trilogy finisher buckle. The event offers a 48 hour completion window.

Entry has no qualifying time requirement and the route is designed to accommodate walkers with a nominal 2.5 mph moving pace. The course is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows and staffed at key locations. Event logistics are fully supported, including transport of up to four drop bags to designated pit stops and a larger finish bag transported to Edinburgh.

Medical cover is delivered by a professional event medic provider and includes paramedics and doctors operating from vehicles and an ambulance. Pit Stops provide water, juice, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, toilets and on site medical assistance, with vegetarian, vegan and some allergen aware options. Enhanced Pit Stops include hot food and larger catering selections. Sleep stations are available at the 60 mile and 83 mile pit stops with an increased bag allowance for sleep kit.

Cut-offs are applied after the 60 mile mark and are based on the stated moving pace. Supporter access is restricted at some pit stops and support runners may only join on specified sections. The event promotes a non competitive ethos and does not use podium places. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
