Rat Race 100 Ultramarathon : Bamburgh to Edinburgh

The Rat Race 100 is a 100 mile (160 km) mass-participation run/trek held 3–5 July 2027 with a 48-hour completion window. The route runs from Bamburgh to Edinburgh and is the first of a three-part trilogy series in which each edition continues from the previous finish; completing all three earns a Trilogy finisher buckle.

The event is designed with accessible logistics: no qualifying times are required, a walker-friendly 2.5 mph completion pace is used for planning, and the course is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows. It is fully supported with staffed pit stops, organised bag transport, a sweeper service and on-course medical cover provided by a professional event medical provider staffed by paramedics and doctors. Spot checks enforce mandatory kit requirements.

Pit Stops are provided along the route with water, hot and cold food options varying by location, toilets, medical support and options for vegetarian, vegan and some allergen-free snacks. Some Pit Stops prohibit supporters due to access limitations. Participants may have up to four drop bags transported to designated Pit Stops or the finish; standard drop bags are limited to 5 kg / 15 L and finish bags up to 15 kg / 70 L. Two Pit Stops offer an optional sleep-station allowance (up to 25 L / 10 kg) for short rest periods.

There are cut-offs in the latter stages of the course to protect participant safety and service operation. Entrants must be over 18 at registration. Registration and tracker collection take place on the Friday at Bamburgh Pavilion. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
