Rat Race 100 Ultramarathon : Bamburgh to Edinburgh
The Rat Race 100 is a 100 mile (160 km) mass participation run or trek held 3–5 July 2027. The event has a 48 hour completion window and is presented as the first leg of a three-part trilogy where each event starts where the previous one finishes. Completing all three editions earns a Trilogy Finisher buckle.
The route is fully waymarked with orange arrows and is fully supported. There are organised Pit Stops with standard provisions such as water, juice, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, toilets and on-site medical cover. Some Pit Stops are classified as Enhanced and offer hot food and larger food selections. Key Pit Stops include:
- Pit Stop 1 Fenham, 10 miles, Simple
- Pit Stop 3 Eyemouth Community Centre, 33 miles, Enhanced
- Pit Stop 6 Dunbar Leisure Centre, 60 miles, Enhanced with hot food
- Pit Stop 9 The Fisherrow Centre, Musselburgh, 93 miles, Simple
Cut-offs are applied after the 60 mile mark at specific Pit Stops; earlier Pit Stops have no enforced cut-off. The event supports walkers with a 2.5 mph recommended moving pace and does not require qualifying times.
Logistics include bag transport for up to four drop bags and an option to choose a sleep station at Pit Stop 6 or Pit Stop 8 with an increased bag allowance for sleep kit. Medical care is provided by a professional event medic team of paramedics and doctors. Participants must be over 18 on the day of registration.
