Rasselbock Backyard Ultra Sherwood Pines 2027

The Rasselbock Backyard Ultra returns to Sherwood Pines Forest Park on 27 March 2027. The event uses a backyard ultra format in which competitors must start a new loop on the hour, every hour, and the race finishes when only one runner can start the next lap.

The course is 4.19 miles (6.74 km) per lap and runs on a mix of forest trails, singletrack and forest access roads with natural woodland and gravel surfaces. Runners are advised to consider trail shoes. The organiser notes the route may change if required by the landowner but will remain the same length and character.

Key competition rules require runners to be inside the starting corral when the bell rings to start each lap; each loop must be completed within an hour including the final lap. Competitors may not leave the course during a lap except to use restrooms. No personal aid is allowed once a lap has started and no artificial aids such as trekking poles are permitted. Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass. If no runner can start one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.

Entries include a unique DNF memento, aid station stock with drinks and snacks, dedicated first aid, an area for support crews and tents, free parking for one vehicle, full chip timing with live results, and a live stream. The winner receives a trophy and a free entry into one of the next two editions; distance trophies are awarded to the furthest male and female finishers. A name transfer fee of £15 applies and refunds are not available after 14 days from sign up. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
