Rancho Cuyamaca State Park Orienteering
The event takes place at Rancho Cuyamaca State Park near Julian, CA, at 12551 CA-79. The park includes oak woodland, pine forest, meadows, and mountain views. Courses are offered at three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, using a map at scale 1:7500 with 5 m contours.
This year there are two start locations. The Beginner course starts and finishes at the event headquarters. The Intermediate and Advanced courses start at the Stonewall Mine location and finish at headquarters. A 15-seat shuttle will run between the headquarters finish and Stonewall Mine; participants may also drive between locations. Participants who own an e-stick may drive directly to Stonewall Mine for Intermediate or Advanced courses. Those borrowing an e-stick should pick it up at headquarters before proceeding to Stonewall Mine.
Electronic punching will be used; all participants must bring, rent, or purchase an e-punch. Rental punches are available for $5. Controls will be AIR+ enabled. An introductory navigation clinic will be offered before the event, and basic navigation instruction is provided at check-in. A two and a half hour time limit applies and all competitors must return to headquarters and download within that limit so organizers can confirm safety.
All participants must pre-register. The event is limited to 100 participants. There is ample parking inside the park after the $10 park entrance fee; follow posted directions to the parking area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
