Radyr Trail Marathon

The Radyr Trail Marathon takes place during the Radyr and Morganstown Festival and is held in the Cardiff area, starting from Cardiff Harlequins RFC, Diamond Ground, Forest Farm Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff CF14 7JN. Proceeds from the event go to local charities.

Distances:

  • Half Marathon (≈13.6 miles)
  • Marathon (≈26.3 miles, ≈1,300 m climb)

The route covers a variety of off-road terrain including mountain views, woodlands, forest and a flat nature reserve near the finish with notable birdlife and squirrels. The highest point on the course is the Garth mountain, which has been featured in film.

Course marking and navigation differ between races. The half marathon is fully marked and has signs at junctions; it is supported by a professional medical team. The marathon follows the half route for the opening miles but then includes three additional circular sections that require self-navigation; marshals will be stationed at critical junctions. Maps and a GPX file will be provided for the marathon.

Aid and logistics: the half has two checkpoints with water and light refreshments; the marathon has three similar checkpoints. There will be a kit check at registration and a full kit list is provided. The venue offers changing rooms, showers and ample parking, and is about a five minute walk from Radyr train station. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
