About the race
The Mahoning Shadow Shuffle is a community running event held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to benefit the Punxsutawney Area Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund. The event uses the Mahoning Shadow Trail and Punxsutawney Rails to Trails and is based at Mahoning Valley VFW, 121 Maple Ave, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
Distances offered:
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
- 10K - 10 kilometers
- 5K - 5 kilometers
- Kids 1 Mile Fun Run / Walk - 1 mile
Professional timing and course marking are provided by Miles of Smiles. Preregistered applications must be postmarked by September 26. Preregistration fees listed for the main races are $30 for the half marathon and $25 for the 10K and 5K; the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk has no registration fee. Registration for the main races opens August 23, 2026 and closes October 2, 2026; kids registration opens August 30, 2026 and closes October 2, 2026.
Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers overall and to the top three in each age group. Age categories cover up to 20, 21 to 30, 31 to 40, 41 to 50, 51 to 60, and 61 and up. The first canine finisher in each race receives a prize; all dogs must be on a leash and under control. The event is held rain or shine with no refunds. Shirts are not provided for the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk; participants receive participant medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
