About the race
The 24th Annual Potomac River Run Marathon & Half takes place on May 1, 2027 at Fletcher's Cove, 4940 Canal Road NW, Washington, DC. The course runs on the C&O Canal Towpath and uses an out-and-back layout with the start and finish at Fletcher's Cove.

The route is almost entirely crushed gravel (about 99%) with two short paved stretches to prevent erosion. The course is flat, tree-lined and shaded, with river views; the highest point is 44 m above sea level and the lowest point is 12 m. There are no cross streets on the course. Aid stations operate along the route and close as the last runner approaches; the final aid station at Lock 6 closes at 1:30 PM. Participants who expect to run slowly are advised to bring their own water bottle.
Pre-race packet pickup is available on Friday, April 30 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM at Pacers Running Store, 3100 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington, VA. On-site packet pickup is offered at Fletcher's Cove on race day from 6:00 AM to 8:15 AM, with organizers asking marathon runners and half marathon runners to use different pickup windows to reduce crowding.
