Pikes Peak Ascent
The Pikes Peak Ascent is a 13.3 mile mountain race from downtown Manitou Springs, Colorado, to the 14,115 foot summit of Pikes Peak. The course gains 7,800 feet of elevation via the historic Barr Trail, beginning with about 1.5 miles of road before joining the trail. The route has an average 11% grade and passes through pine and aspen forest before climbing above tree line into alpine terrain.
The event invites elite competitors and awards cash prizes, with free entries available to past winners. Entry limits are set by the Pike National Forest. Qualifiers are not required for general registration; instead runners may submit recent race results or a self-timed run for wave placement. The top 90 men and the top 90 women are placed in the first starting wave, and subsequent waves are assigned using an estimated ascent time based on submitted results.
Registration for 2027 opens March 1 with the following posted fees: $175 on March 1, $195 on April 1, and $225 on July 1. August 1 is the last day to select the runner shirt option. Runners must be at least 16 years old on race day. Deferred entry policies and waitlist procedures are used when races sell out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
