Rescue Run
The Rescue Run is a trail race held at Norris Penrose Event Center and the East Bear Creek Regional Park trails. The event offers two distances:
- 5K
- 10K
Both courses begin with about 0.5 mile on Event Center roads and dirt lots before crossing a bridge onto wide dirt trails in East Bear Creek Park. Trails are mostly wide and roll with an overall climb to about mile 2, then descend in places. The course low point is 6,058 ft and the high point is 6,192 ft.
The 5K splits from the 10K at about 2.5 miles, crosses a final bridge near 2.74 miles, and finishes with an uphill through a dirt lot by the horse barns. The 10K leaves the 5K at 2.5 miles to use a short private-property connector trail, includes an additional climb and descent, loops through central park trails, and returns along the creek trail to the east bridge before the final approach to the finish.
Water stations are provided approximately at miles 1.5 and 2.5 for the 5K, and at miles 1.5, 3.5, 4.5, and 5.75 for the 10K. Expect snow and ice on the trails; traction devices are recommended at participants own discretion. Proceeds benefit El Paso County Search & Rescue (EPCSAR). Packet pickup is located in the park at Norris Penrose Event Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
