Piedmont 8-Hour Run : Powhatan State Park
The Piedmont 8-Hour Run on October 17, 2026 is an 8-hour loop event at Powhatan State Park. Registration options include an 8-hour solo entry, an 8-hour four-person relay, and a Parent Loop option. Entry fees start at $80.
The course begins at the Equestrian Trailhead Parking and uses an approximately 2.7-mile loop on Coyote Run, Pine, Cabin, and Big Wood trails. The route mixes open field and forest running, with about 80 feet of elevation gain per loop. Field sections are equestrian trails that are wide and can become muddy after rain. Runners travel the loop in the same direction each lap and only full loops are recorded; participants complete as many full loops as they wish within the eight-hour period.
There is one aid station at the start/finish offering typical ultra foods such as chips, pretzels, candy, PB&J, pickles, water, soda, Tailwind, and hot broth or soup. Runners may set up personal aid at their vehicle and may keep drop bags at the start/finish or at their vehicle. A local cafe partners for boxed meals available as an add-on.
A Parent Loop allows a family member to run a single loop with a participant and receive a finishing time and award. Pacers are allowed. The park offers a small campground with electric hookups and yurts; nearby hotels are in Midlothian. Discounts are available for military, fire, law enforcement, medical, and educational professionals. Top overall and top local finishers receive awards; every runner who completes a loop receives a finisher award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
