Perpetua Fatass - 13th Annual, Yachats, Oregon
Perpetua Fatass is a free, self-supported winter trail run on the Oregon Coast that starts and finishes at Yachats Commons. The gathering on January 9, 2027 offers multiple route options that use trails around Cape Perpetua and nearby ridges.
Participants carry their own food, hydration, layers and navigation. Water is available at two locations along the course and at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center, but these are not traditional aid stations. Maps, GPX files and course instructions are provided; runners are advised to download navigation materials before arriving because cellular service can be inconsistent.
The event emphasizes route choice and on-trail decision making. Distances include:
- 9 Mile out-and-back to Cape Perpetua Lookout
- 20K out-and-back to Cape Perpetua Visitor Center
- 30K-ish with a choice at the Visitor Center between a classic 30K and a roughly 20 mile option
- 50K approximately 31 miles via Cooks Ridge, Cummins Peak Road, Cummins Ridge and the Oregon Coast Trail
Yachats Commons serves as home base where runners can leave drop bags and join a post run potluck. January conditions can include rain, wind, mud and cold; trail shoes, layers and route preparation are recommended. Parking is available around the Commons.
