Pére Malfait Trail Race
The Pére Malfait Trail Race takes place at the Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area in Bastrop, Louisiana. The event is held on a very flat 8 mile loop trail that follows the top of the reservoir levee. Participants will encounter terrain that includes holes and large ant piles throughout the course. The front side of the loop is open and exposed to the sun, while the back side provides shade.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- 50 km
- 16 miles
- 8 miles
The course features two aid stations to support runners. A fully manned station at the start and finish area provides hot food and vegan options. A second station is located on the course around the 4 mile mark, offering ice, water, electrolytes, and various snacks such as PB&J, chips, cookies, and fruit.
Participants receive a variety of event swag, including a T-shirt, headbands, and a runner light. All finishers are awarded a medal, while the top three male and female finishers in each category receive custom plaques. The race name is inspired by Louisiana folklore, referring to a swamp creature known as the "father of mischief" or "Moss Man."
