Pere Malfait Trail Race : Bastrop, LA
The Pere Malfait Trail Race is an organized trail event at Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area near Bastrop, Louisiana, presented by BTR. The event includes the following distances:
- 50K
- 16 Miler
- 8 Miler
The course follows trails around Bussey Brake Reservoir, including an 8-mile section that runs along the top of the reservoir levee. The trail is generally flat but has holes with large ant piles in places. The front side of the course is exposed to sun while the back side has shade. There are two aid stations: a fully manned start/finish area with hot food, and an on-course station near the 4 mile point offering ice, water, electrolytes, and snacks. Two parking areas are located on the west side of Bonner Ferry Road with a self-clearing permit station at the north parking area.
Lodging options near the WMA include primitive campsites, cabins, and full service RV hookups at The Oaks at Bussey. Chemin-A-Haut State Park lies about 7 miles away and offers additional camping, cabins, trails, and day-use facilities.
