Pawpaw 10 Miler and 5 Miler
The Pawpaw 10 Miler and 5 Miler takes place during the third week of September at Powhatan State Park. The event is held alongside the Pawpaw Festival and includes food vendors, beer trucks, family and nature programs, and live music.
Distances
- 10 Mile
- 5 Mile
Runners follow the park's exterior trails along the James River and through reclaimed fields and mixed forest. The course includes a flat riverfront section, steeper climbs into open fields, shaded singletrack, a run past historic cabin ruins, and a return to the Equestrian Trailhead Parking Lot. There is a water station near mile 5; 5 Mile runners should carry water because there is no on-course water for that distance. Drop bags and pacers are not permitted, and dogs and strollers are not allowed.
Registration fees listed are $40 for the 5 Mile and $50 for the 10 Mile, and a portion of proceeds benefits the Friends of Powhatan State Park. Runners registering by September 1st are guaranteed a shirt. Boxed lunches are available for purchase after the event from the Cafe at Maidens. The park opened in 2013 and offers miles of James River frontage plus nearly 20 miles of trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
