Panopticons Ultra

Panopticons Ultra is a new point-to-point trail ultra covering approximately 32 miles (52 km) around East Lancashire. The route visits the four Panopticons art installations by Mid Pennine Arts: Colourfields, Halo, Singing Ringing Tree and Atom, and runs across trails in the South Pennines.

The course begins at Corporation Park in Blackburn and finishes in the village of Trawden. It includes sections of the Pennine Way, the Rossendale Way and the Pennine Bridleway near the foothills of Boulsworth Hill, and passes through villages tied to the area’s industrial heritage. Total ascent is about 4700 ft (1430 m).

A map, GPX file and basic written instructions are provided. Some navigational ability is required. Entrants must be at least 18 years old and dogs are not permitted. Participants are required to carry full body waterproof cover, a map, compass, whistle, mug and a fully charged mobile phone, and to wear appropriate fell or trail footwear.

Registration is based in Trawden and transport is provided to the start. Entries close two days before the event date and transfers are allowed up to one month before the close. Entry fee is £40 and a donation will be made to local charitable causes. The overall time limit to complete the route is 10 hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
