Pain in Moraine : September 11 to 12, 2026
Pain in Moraine is a 24 hour loop challenge held at Moraine State Park South Shore, Sunken Garden Trailhead in Portersville, PA. The course uses the Pleasant Valley, Hilltop, and Sunken Garden trails. Each lap is an almost perfect 10K (6.2 miles) with approximately 723 feet of vertical gain.
Competitors may arrive at any point during the event to log laps and may leave and return later, provided they communicate intentions to race management. New for 2026, Miles of Smiles will track participants. There is room near the start and finish to set up a base camp; tents and canopies are permitted and should be tethered appropriately. Camp fires and alcohol are not permitted. A couple of propane heaters will be available near the main tent overnight.
The main tent hosts a fully stocked aid station and hot food options such as toasted cheese, cheese quesadilla, ramen noodles, hot dogs, and pizza. A mini aid station at the halfway point is stocked with water and Gatorade and is available throughout the event. Crews may assist runners at the start/finish and at the 3.5 mile water station; parking is limited there and parking on the road is not allowed. Runners under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registrations prior to August 23, 2026, receive a pair of 3" wool socks and a Techno Lite Vest. Day of registration is allowed if capacity is not met; cash or Venmo accepted. Awards go to the male and female with the most laps, with additional awards for ultra distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
