Pacific Crest Trail 50 (PCT 50)
The PCT 50 is a 50 mile out and back trail run on the Pacific Crest Trail in the Cleveland National Forest, east San Diego County. The course is mostly single track and ranges in elevation from about 3,000 to 6,000 feet. Runners will face rocky sections and repeated climbs, with about 7,500 feet of total elevation gain and roughly 2,500 feet of gain occurring within the early part of the route.
Fully stocked aid stations are located at miles 6.4, 13.7, 17.5, 22.7, 27.3, 32.5, 36.3, and 43.6, and Tailwind will be available at every aid station. Crews are permitted only at Penny Pines; drop bags are accepted there and must display the runner's name. Pacers are allowed beginning with the second pass through Penny Pines or from Per’s Cabin on the return, and must accompany the runner for the remainder of the course. An early start option is offered; runners starting early must carry a flashlight or headlamp.
There are enforced time limits for safety: a 13.5 hour overall cutoff, plus intermediate cutoffs at Penny Pines (mile 23 first pass), Per’s Cabin on the return (mile 33), and Fred Canyon Road on the return (mile 44). The event operates under permit on Cleveland National Forest and trails are maintained by volunteer groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
