O'Brien Trail Races
The O'Brien Trail Races take place at William O'Brien State Park in Marine on St Croix, Minnesota. Organized by True North Adventures, the event utilizes the upper and south sections of the park, as well as the Jackson Meadows area. The courses consist primarily of wide grass trails.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 50 km: A two-loop course utilizing the 25 km route.
- 25 km: A single-loop course with four aid stations.
- 10 km: A course consisting of two laps of the 5 km loop.
- 5 km: A single loop featuring one large hill and a flat finish.
The 50 km and 25 km events include four aid stations per loop providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks. Finishers in these categories are eligible for awards for the top three male and female runners. The 5 km and 10 km distances are designed as entry-level trail races and do not include aid stations or awards, though official timing is provided. All finishers of the 5 km and 10 km receive a full-color print of the event logo.
The event hub is located at the William O'Brien State Park Visitor Center, which provides parking and restroom facilities. Race packets are available for pickup on the morning of the event at the start area. Post-race refreshments typically include water, soda, and various snacks such as cookies and chips.
The event has specific equipment rules, including a requirement for participants to use headphones if they wish to listen to music. Registration is available online until mid-September, with race-day registration options also available. Race shirts are offered as an optional add-on to the entry fee for the longer distances.
