OBOP Sprint Series 2026

The OBOP Sprint Series is a pair of sprint orienteering events held in local schools, parks and streets of Tauranga and Mount Maunganui during August. Each event uses individual, staggered starts where competitors receive their map when the clock starts, navigate controls in a prescribed order and stop the clock at the finish control. Courses are urban sprints with route choices shaped by buildings and other urban features.

Competitors self start and use SPORTident AIR timing. Competitors with a personal SI card are asked to pre-register with that card number and bring the card to the event. Hire SIAC dibbers are available at registration and competitors who hire a dibber will register details on a tablet on arrival. If AIR mode fails, controls can be registered manually.

Three linear course levels are offered: Easy for 10 year olds and under or first timers; Moderate for 12 year olds and under or those progressing from Easy; and Difficult for those who have progressed from Moderate. Events accept individual, family and group entries. Schools bringing five or more participants must complete a pre-entry form and will be invoiced separately; students still collect a dibber at registration.

No dogs are permitted. There is limited access to toilets and water so competitors should bring their own water. Events proceed in normal rain but may be postponed or canceled for extreme weather with a Facebook notice posted prior to 7am on the event day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
