Nipika Loppet

Nipika Loppet is a cross country ski loppet held at Nipika Mountain Resort in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia. The event takes place on Saturday, January 23, 2027, on trails that are part of the Cross River Canyon Recreation Site.

Distances offered include:

30 km
30 km skiathlon
15 km
7.5 km
3 km
1.5 km

The 15 km course is a loop on the north network with rolling terrain, a few steep hills, and mountain and river views. The 30 km and skiathlon events consist of two 15 km loops. The 7.5 km course includes rollers and forest sections. The 3 km loop stays nearby with a couple of small hills, and the 1.5 km loop goes around the meadow and barn.

The new 30 km skiathlon combines a 15 km classic loop followed by a 15 km skate loop and may be entered as an individual or as a two person team where one member skis classic and the other skis skate. Distances have age and category groupings for male and female divisions and some youth and Special Olympics categories. Results for 2027 will be timed professionally by Zone4.

On site lodging options include cabin accommodations and primitive camping at Nipika. Additional accommodation choices are available in Radium Hot Springs about 35 minutes away by car. The event is organized in partnership with Nipika Mountain Resort and Recreation Sites and Trails BC, with several sponsors and volunteer opportunities.
