MTC POOKA : Ultra running day on Ireland’s west coast
The MTC Pooka is a standalone 38 miles ultra that also serves as Day 1 of the 14-day Mount to Coast MizMal series. The point-to-point route runs from Mizen Road, Cloghane, Goleen to the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff and follows much of the MizMal route developed by Wild Atlantic Cycling.
The course details include a total ascent of 830.8 metres and a total descent of 892.5 metres. The route is broken into four stages with checkpoints approximately at 8.7 miles, 17.5 miles (Dunbeacon), 27.1 miles (Bantry Pier) and the finish at 38 miles. Checkpoint cut-offs are set to reflect a minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below the required standard may be withdrawn.
Race entry options and inclusions:
- Standard entry fee: £90, which covers entry, bespoke finisher medal, checkpoint support, race tracking, GPX and route information, and checkpoint food and drinks.
- Pooka Plus package: £155, adds an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi-vis jacket if booked at least four weeks before the event.
Field sizes are limited to 20 standalone Pooka runners with a maximum overall field of 40 including MizMal participants.
