About the race
Run Wild Missoula presents the Mount Jumbo Elk Ramble 15K on November 7, 2026, the only organized trail race held on Mount Jumbo. The course traverses the Mount Jumbo Wildlife Management Area and City Conservation & Open Space Lands in the North Zone; the wildlife area closes to recreation on December 1.
The event starts and finishes at the Hellgate Soccer Fields and covers approximately 15K of trail terrain. Aid stations are located near miles 1.75, 4, and 8.25 and will provide porta potties, water, and gels. This is a cupless event: disposable cups are not provided at aid stations or the start/finish area, and participants may carry hand-held bottles or hydration packs and refill at stations.
In-person registration is tiered: $45 from July 30 to October 7 and $55 from October 8 to November 7. The in-person race is capped at 300 participants; entry fees are non-transferable and non-deferrable, and there is no wait list. A virtual Elk Ramble option is offered with separate registration priced at $40 from July 30 to November 16 and is capped at 35 participants; virtual runners may complete the course between October 26 and November 16.
All participants receive chip timing, a custom bib, on-course aid, and a collectible Elk Ramble dog tag. Post-race food includes a baked potato and cheddar roll provided by Texas Roadhouse. Awards include top three overall in female, male, and non-binary categories and first place in standard age-group brackets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
