Move Free Whoopie Mile
The Move Free Whoopie Mile pairs running with whoopie pies: organizers supply whoopies and participants eat one at the end of each 0.25 mile lap. Each whoopie must be finished before the next lap begins. A participant may run a single lap in a relay, complete four laps solo for the mile, or continue looping and eating until only one person remains. Vomiting results in disqualification.
Distances and formats:
- 0.25 mile lap
- 1 mile (4 laps) solo or relay
- Solo endurance repeat 1 lap with 1 whoopie per lap
There are three main divisions. The Solo Mile Division awards the fastest individual time over four laps. The Relay Division uses teams of two to four members with the fastest team time winning. The Solo Endurance Division ranks competitors by the number of completed laps; each lap must be finished in under ten minutes to prevent stalling. One participant may compete in both the Solo Mile and Solo Endurance divisions by running the first mile and then continuing.
The loop is located at the College of the Atlantic near the Whale Skull at the campus main entrance in Bar Harbor, Maine. The roughly 0.25 mile loop uses about half pavement and half gravel, has minimal elevation, and places the eating transition zone near the Whale Skull. Parking is available on campus or within walking distance from town.
Prizes include the title of Move Free Whoopie Mile World Champion until the next event and awards for top team names and costumes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
