Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race
Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race is a trail ultra held in the Angeles National Forest with the start and finish at Mt. Wilson Skyline Park. The courses run on historic mountain trails about 45 minutes from Los Angeles and reach a peak elevation of 5,800 feet.
Terrain is primarily technical single track with rocky sections, steep climbs, and fast descents through pine forest and chaparral. Scenic features along the route include panoramic views of the San Gabriel Valley, a historic Nike missile site, and the Mt. Wilson Observatory.
The course is well marked with ribbons and signs. Aid stations are fully stocked and placed roughly every 5 to 7 miles; the 25K course is served by two aid stations and the 50K by five. Poles are permitted; drop bags and pacers are not allowed. Organizers recommend carrying extra water between Josephine Saddle and RedBox and using GPS tracks on phone or watch. Cutoff times are enforced at aid stations and at the finish for both distances.
Finishers receive a medal and a tech race shirt. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. The event operates under a USFS permit in the Angeles National Forest. Entry fees are non refundable and transfers or deferrals are not allowed.
