Montane Summer Spine Sprint South

The Montane Summer Spine Sprint South is a non-stop 46 miles race along the Pennine Way from Edale to Hebden Bridge with an 18 hour time limit. The route includes technical sections and varied terrain that require concentration, physical fitness and self-sufficiency. Participants are expected to travel with a degree of skill and preparedness.

The course has a total ascent of 2017 metres and a total descent of 2033 metres. Typical June conditions are listed as daytime temperatures between 5°C and 25°C, night-time temperatures between 0°C and 10°C, and about 19 hours of daylight. The race has 100 places available.

Entry details note a fee of £165 per athlete, which includes a non refundable deposit of £66. Runners must be aged 21 or over at the time of the race. Completion of a marathon or an ultramarathon qualifies for entry; other relevant experience such as adventure races, orienteering or fell races may also be considered. The event is unsupported, although participants may use cafes and pubs along the route for sustenance and shelter. Planned pacing, private support vehicles and organised on route support are not permitted.
