The course is described in two halves: the first follows flat, fast trails along Monsal Dale, and the second takes a direct line up and down Fin Cop before a final climb to the finish at Monsal Head.

The event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association and governed by FRA rules. Competitors must carry the mandatory FRA kit; the use of GPS navigation or poles is not allowed and running with dogs is prohibited. Rule breaches may result in disqualification.
