MBCR 40
The MBCR 40 is a forty mile supported canal race from Malpas to Brecon along the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. The route follows towpaths and passes locks, narrowboats and wooded stretches, with named points of interest including Pontymoile Basin, Goytre Wharf and Talybont-on-Usk. The event date is 24 April 2027.
Organised by Canalrace C.I.C., the event is volunteer-powered and not-for-profit. There is a single entry category; all entrants receive support from the event team and three staffed checkpoints offering snacks, fruit and hot and cold drinks. The organiser provides runner information and the official route to help with preparation, plus post-run care and a Canalrace medal.
Participants must respect a 15 hour time limit and event cut-offs and carry mandatory kit including the required water capacity, a waterproof jacket, a light source and survival equipment. Entrants should download the official route before the event and prepare for gaps between checkpoints by carrying sufficient food and water for each section.
Entries open 31 October 2026 and close 17 April 2027. The minimum age on the event date is 20 years. The entry fee for the listed category is £55. A coach transfer from Brecon to Malpas is planned with booking details provided separately. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
